Have you heard a joke in the pub you didn't understand?
Ever watched a comedy programme cracking jokes that you didn't get?
Find yourself frequently alienated from your friends as a result?
If you keep thinking to yourself "I don't get it" then this is the place for you.
IDontGetIt.co.uk is an online forum for proud people who have heard a joke and not understood it, not because it wasn't funny, but because they didn't get WHY it was funny.
Many jokes today strongly rely on knowledge on key areas, including people, places, history, current events, and culture, to name but a few. It's impossible for any one person to understand every joke because they can be so diverse.
You can ask for explanations of jokes right here completely anonymously and have every confidence that others will answer your questions without insulting your intelligence.
If this site is anonymous, why do I have to register?
IDontGetIt.co.uk is anonymous in the sense that you don't have to provide any details that can be used to identify you as a person. Your real name, where you live, your phone number and so on are not required. The only details we ask for are listed below, along with a reason why we ask for them:
- Username - This is so the board can identify you as a user, but we can't possibly find out anything else about you based on this. You can even use a different username here than you do in any other forum. Knowing who you are as an "alias" on here can prove useful, for example, if you've been really helpful to others by answering a lot of their joke-related questions.
- E-mail address - This is for validation purposes so you can prove you're a human being and not a bot that wants to spam the forum. It is also used to send you information about site updates, but you can opt out of this at any time whatsoever.
So can we ask for help on ANY jokes here?
Absolutely! It doesn't matter if the joke is from a television programme, a film, another website, or one you've heard in the pub or read in a book. The joke can be of any nature, even sick and twisted jokes that you'd never utter to your own mother.
I'm still not sure. I feel a bit stupid asking.
Don't be! Ask away! We won't judge you. We operate a strict policy where people aren't allowed to insult each other just because they don't get a joke. If anything like that happened, we would take action against the culprit(s) which could result in them being blocked from the website.
Besides, there could simply be a cultural reason why you don't get the joke. For example, the famous Kool-Aid "Oh Yeah!" joke in Family Guy would be well received by most Americans. However, few people in another country, like the United Kingdom, would get the joke because the drink is not available to buy in that country and therefore isn't advertised.
So, whatever your reason for not getting a joke, it doesn't matter.
